Behind the Scenes: Matsura MAM 5-Axis Machine

This series was filmed and edited by Keaton Bowlby

Welcome back to a Special Edition of Cutting Corners. In this episode, Jim is joined by Phil Linscheid, VP of Manufacturing for SendCutSend, for a behind the scenes look at one of our Matsura MAM 72 five axis machines which plays a big role in our CNC Machining services.

In this video you’ll learn what makes this machine so capable, from the 20,000 RPM spindle to the 330 tool capacity and 32 pallet automation system. The MAM 72 is built for up to 72 hours of unattended runtime. Its integrated pallet system allows us to load and unload material while the machine is still cutting, so there is no wasting time waiting on the spindle to stop.

Since we build directly from your 3D model, there is no room for guesswork. This machine holds extremely tight tolerances at the micron level, and we calibrate it every single day to keep it locked in. Pair that with standardized tooling across our machines and we can move work around the shop without slowing down or sacrificing quality.

In this episode, we cover:

  • How five axis machining allows us to produce complex parts in a single setup
  • The 330 tool system and how consistent tooling keeps production efficient
  • The 32 pallet automation that keeps the spindle running
  • High pressure through spindle coolant and temperature control for stability
  • Chip management designed for real production environments
  • Why when we load five parts, we expect five good parts
