Designing the correct hole size when preparing for tapping is important. Holes that are too large may cause the tap to strip out or fail. If the hole is too small, it will cause the tap to bind, create excessive heat, wear, and could result in a broken tap trying to cut too much
We currently have a variety of sheet metal and plastic materials available for tapping. You can quickly confirm which materials are available for tapping at our Processing Maximums and Minimums page.
You can powder coat bent/formed and tapped parts. Please be aware that die witness marks from the press brake will be visible through the coating. Also, you will have to chase any tapped holes to clear the threads once you receive the parts.
Setup for tapping depends on whether you plan to order sheet parts or machined billet parts. For sheet and plate parts, we accept both vector and 3D file formats and we’ll resize holes up to 4.00″ to fit the tap size you choose. For machined billet parts, we accept STEP/STP files and require additional info before checkout to confirm the taps needed.
