What are the material specifications?

Material specifications are the limits and design requirements for each material thickness we offer, including tolerances, minimum cut sizes, flange lengths, bend limits, and more. You can find them on each material page in our Material Catalog.

Every material and thickness we offer has a defined set of specifications that ensure your design can be cut, bent, or finished successfully. These limits prevent issues during production and help you get the best turnaround.

Critical material design specifications

Some of the most important specs you’ll find include:

  • Cutting limits: tolerances, minimum hole/slot/cutout size, minimum bridging/webbing size
  • Bending limits: maximum bend length, minimum flange length, minimum and maximum bend angles, bend radius, bend deduction, and K-factor
  • Part size limits: minimum and maximum sizes for cutting, as well as size limits for post-processing services (like anodizing or powder coat)

👉 See how these specs connect to our Bending Guidelines and Flange Requirements if you’re designing bent parts.

How to find material specifications

You’ll find detailed specs directly in our Material Catalog.

  1. Select the material you want.
  2. Click Specifications at the top of the material page to scroll down to the critical data.
  3. Choose the thickness you plan to use and click View Specs for all cutting, bending, and finishing requirements.
  4. For additional details like composition and magnetism, scroll to the Properties section at the bottom of the page.

Why this matters:

Designing with the correct specifications up front avoids delays, re-quotes, or design revisions later. Matching your CAD setup to our specs is the best way to get accurate parts on the first try.

Bottom line:

Always confirm material specifications in the Material Catalog before uploading your file. It’s your one-stop resource for the exact tolerances, bend rules, and limits for every thickness we stock.
