Free Deburring and Finishing Services

Our laser cut deburring/finishing process is included at no cost, because we want you to have good looking parts when they arrive at your door.

We’ll use a variety of processes to remove small imperfections, scratches, and burr left over from the cutting process.

Brass part with SendCutSend's FREE deburring service

Not perfect, but close!

Please note that our finishing services will not result in a perfectly cosmetic finish, but the parts will be attractive, smooth and ready to use.

If your project requires a perfectly brushed pattern, aggressive edge softening, or a highly polished surface, we recommend performing finishing operations after you receive the parts from us. We do not offer a cosmetic graining or brushing service.

Benefits of Deburring with SendCutSend

What to Expect

Here’s how parts will look without deburring or finishing:
  • There will be some minor imperfections
  • Bottom face will have minor scratches
  • There will be small tabs on the edges of your parts leftover from the machining process. These cannot be removed by our deburring process
  • Some edges will be sharp, and some edges may be slightly rounded
  • To receive parts “as-cut” be sure to deselect the deburring option when ordering.

Deburring and Ceramic Tumbling Examples

You can choose to have your parts deburred or tumbled. We have perfected the recipes per material for each option. Results vary based on the hardness and density of each material as seen in the examples below.

Aluminum

Cold Rolled Carbon Steel

Stainless Steel

Requirements and Limitations

Deburring Requirements:

  • Minimum material thickness of .050″ or more
  • Intricate, fragile or highly detailed geometry may not be eligible for finishing. We will review these designs on a case-by-case basis.
  • Deburring is NOT available for any mild or high carbon steel products (mild steel, HR, AR500, 4130, 1095, etc).

For small parts:
The minimum part size for linear deburring is 1″ x 3″.

For large parts: The maximum part size for linear deburring is 24″ x 46″. Overall part size limitations for linear deburring are also listed in our material processing size chart.

Tumbling Requirements:

Upon request (or at our discretion), parts smaller than approximately 4″ x 4″ may be ceramic tumbled in order to provide a smooth surface finish.

Small parts:
The minimum part size for tumbling is 0.250″ x 0.750″.

Large parts:
The maximum part size for tumbling is 4″ x 7″.

Our free ceramic tumbling process includes:
  • Partially softened, smooth edge in most materials.
  • Partially “antiqued” finish and surface coloration.
  • Parts will be ready for polishing or chemical brightening.
Ceramic tumbling limitations:
  • We cannot guarantee a consistent and uniform finish, especially between separate orders.
  • Edge softening cannot be precisely controlled.
  • Holes and interior cutouts smaller than 1/2″ will not be processed.
  • Finish will not be cosmetically perfect. This process is for deburring and edge softening only.
  • Tumbling will add 2-3 days to your order’s lead time.

Our Deburring Service FAQs

Do you offer linear graining?

SendCutSend does not offer line graining, but our free online deburring service will help remove any major imperfections leftover from the machining process. Deburring doesn’t polish the surface or leave it perfectly finished as with line graining, but it will prepare your part for additional finishing and assembly.

Will there be scratches on my parts?

There will inevitably be scratches left on the surface of your part after the machining process especially on the bottom side that contacts the laser bed. Thick aluminum (>.250″) may have a slight burr on the bottom edge. If you want to minimize the effect the scratches will have on the final look of
