What are tabs? How can they be removed?

Tabs are used to keep your part from falling out of its nesting during laser cutting. We laser cut a bit of additional material about 0.010”-0.015” thick on the outside of your part. It’s easy enough to break the part out of the sheet metal by hand, but strong enough to hold the part in during machining.

Microtabs can be easily removed by sanding it off by hand, or using a metal file. You don’t need to add microtabs to your design because we automatically do it for you during nesting. We make sure all tabs and lead-ins are outside your part geometry so your design remains true to what you originally send us. This is also part of the reason why it’s important to not put multiple parts in one file (pre-nest) before you send it to us for laser cutting!
